my daughters bearded dragon put its mouth over its new babys head why did it do this?

why would a bearded dragon try to kill its new baby.my daughter woke up to find her bearded dragon had had a baby but then it put its mouth over tha babys head does my daughter have to keep them apart?

Just one hatchling? I’m sure there were more to begin with… is she acting quite full?

Beardies don’t care that it’s their own offspring, it’s smaller than them and will fit in their mouth and it’s food. In general it’s always good to remember that reptiles are not social animals and as far as they’re concerned, meat is meat.
